I recently picked up a post apocalyptic triple pack of films by director Enzo G. Castellari (he directed the original Inglorious Bastards). One of these films is called the New Barbarians. SO awesome. Lots of bad acting and terrible dubbing but Fred Williamson tears it up. Most of Castellar’s films end up being homages to some more obvious American classics like Escape From New York and The Warriors or the less American but equally entertaining Mad Max. The parallels are difficult to escape. But that doesn’t matter. His films are so entertaining that you just don’t care about the almost blatant rip-offedness of their plot line and overall art direction. You get lost in these worlds that he fabricates.
So I’m watching The New Barbarians and there’s this motorcycle chase scene that leads into the big battle at the end. I decided to try and quickly freehand sketch some stills from the big fight scene. I love their costumes and the way that the costumes sort of make them move. You can tell that the actors are limited by their massive shoulder pads. Hope you enjoy the sketches that follow!
